An international high-level conference dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Human Rights Defender’s Institution has been started at the Plenary Session hall of the National Assembly.
RA Prime Minister Mr. Nikol Pashinyan, President of RA National Assembly Mr. Ararat Mirzoyan and the RA Human Rights Defender Mr. Arman Tatoyan will made opening remarks.
At the invitation of the RA Human Rights Defender, Ombudspersons from more than 30 countries and representatives of more than 20 international organizations (European Union, Council of Europe, OSCE, etc.) arrived to Armenia to attend the conference.
During the conference, there will be speakers including OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Mr. Harlem Désir, Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Ms. Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, First Vice President of the Venice Commission Ms. Herdis Thorgeirsdóttir, President of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture Mr. Mykola Gnatovskyy, as well as other ombudspersons and international experts.
The event is organised with the support of the European Union funded “Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Armenia” project, implemented by UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF, as well as Office of the UN Resident Coordinator, the Council of Europe, Armenian General Benevolent Union and Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
During the two-day conference, there will be thematic discussions, which will relate to the role of national human rights national institutions and challenges in contemporary world, freedom of speech and the prohibition of hate speech, prevention of ill-treatment, including in child care and social care institutions, as well as protection of women’s rights.
