Yesterday, the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan visited Gegharkunik
region. He visited Sevan Business Center, had a meeting with the representatives
of the Center and discussed further cooperation activities aimed at promoting business.
Arman Tatoyan also had a meeting with the representatives of NGOs
and students at the Gavar State University.
During the meeting, issues regarding the development of social
and economic capacities of women and people with disabilities were discussed.
“We should support the development of women’s economic capacities
in every way, because women with stable financial income can refrain from being
subjected to violence and other forms of discrimination. Active participation
of women and people with disabilities in country’s socio-economic life and
decision making processes is in the public’s interest,” said the Human Rights
Defender Arman Tatoyan in his opening remarks.
During the meeting organized within "Promoting Human Rights
Protection in Armenia for All" project implemented with the support of USAID,
the Mission Director of USAID Armenia Deborah Grieser and the Director of the
Armenian Representative Office of ABA ROLI Hasmik Hakobyan emphasized the
importance of such regional discussions on the protection of rights of women
and people with disabilities.
As a result of regional discussions, representatives of state
and local self-government bodies, as well as NGOs raise issues for the solution
of which individual work is undertaken.
During one of the previous discussions, a social issue of a
woman raised by “Areguni” NGO president Gayane Khachatryan was solved by the
Defender’s support, for which Ms. Khachatryan expressed her appreciation during
the meeting.
Other issues of concern for citizens have been also discussed
during the meeting. At the same day, the representatives of
the Human Rights Defender met with representatives of state and local
self-government bodies of the region to discuss women rights issues. They
related to women’s involvement in political and economic life, equal employment
opportunities, domestic violence, etc.
