On 14 November 2019, upon the
instruction of the Human Rights Defender, the representatives of the Office, together
with the representatives of the civil society who are members of the Advisory Council
for the Prevention of Torture adjunct to the Human Rights Defender, carried out
unannounced monitoring visits to the Sevan Penitentiary Institution.
During the visit, the members of the
group had private interviews with convicts serving their sentences in the
penitentiary institution, as well as examined the detention conditions in the
penitentiary institution. The issues pertaining to medical care of people
deprived of liberty in the penitentiary institution, as well as the possibility
of realizing their rights were also examined. The representatives of the Office
had a meeting with the administration of the penitentiary and discussed a
number of issues related to the detention conditions.

prepares relevant official letters with regard to the recorded issues.
