The Human Rights Defender's Office
has been conducting independent monitoring from the very beginning of the
campaign for the elections of the National Assembly.
All elections-related incidents that
involve features of acts envisaged by the Criminal Code were recorded by the
Human Rights Defender and sent to the criminal prosecution authorities, raising
the issue of initiating appropriate proceedings, as well as clarifications on
the measures taken.
In particular, at this moment
letters have been addressed on threats towards the RPA candidate Vahan Babayan,
on hindering the campaign of “Citizen’s Decision” social-democratic party in
Aparan and on other cases.
As a reminder, the Human Rights
Defender established a Working Group for the purposes of independent monitoring
of pre-election and election periods of Parliamentary election to be held on 9
December within the Defender’s mandate prescribed by the Law.
During the whole period of election
campaign and the Election Day, the Working Group will monitor the alleged
violations of electoral rights reported through media on a daily basis.
Meanwhile, the Group will ensure proper examination of oral and written
complaints addressed to the Defender, including calls received via hotline
