"Freedom of speech is one of
the main indicators of the country's democratic development: the protection of
this high value is the responsibility of all. It is directly linked to the
promotion of dissent,” mentioned Arman Tatoyan in his opening speech during the
seminar on “Freedom of Speech. Where are the limits?".
The Human Rights Defender highly
valued the role of journalists in promoting dissent, through them citizen gains
a true insight about the work of public bodies and officials. This is how
civilian control over the state is guaranteed.
During the event, organized by the
Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression together with the Delegation of the
European Union to Armenia, Arman Tatoyan expressed his concern over the insult
and hate speech in social networks in recent months.
