From March 9 to 13, the Human Rights Defender of the
Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan participated in the 119th plenary
session of the Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture and
Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) in Strasbourg, as a member
of the Committee representing Armenia.
During the meeting, the Committee discussed and approved a
number of reports on visits conducted to several countries.
The Committee also discussed draft new standards regarding
immigration detention facilities and social care institutions.
Within the framework of the meeting, verbal reports were
also presented on visits conducted by the Committee to several countries in
recent months, the results of high-level meetings were discussed, as well as
plans for future visits and meetings.
It should be recalled that on November 29 2023, the
Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe elected Ms. Anahit Manasyan,
the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, as the member of the
European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading
Treatment or Punishment (CPT) on behalf of Armenia. Ms. Manasyan’s term runs
until December 19, 2027.
