On 24
February, students of Yerevan Basic School No. 181 visited the Human Rights
Defender’s Office of the Republic of Armenia.
Welcoming
the guests, Ms. Lilit Aghajanyan, Head of the Department for the Implementation
of Convention Mandates of the Human Rights Defender's Office, presented the
mission, scope of authority, main directions and priorities of the Human Rights
Defender's Office.
During
the meeting, a number of important issues related to the protection of
children’s rights were discussed. In particular, reference was made to
mechanisms for the prevention of and effective response to violence against
children, ensuring the right to education, challenges related to the exercise
of the child’s right to visitation, the protection of the rights of persons
with disabilities, the peculiarities of criminal liability of minors.
Issues
concerning the guarantee of the best interests of the child in various
situations were also addressed.
The
meeting was held in a Q&A format, which gave the students the opportunity
to raise issues of concern to them and receive professional clarifications.
Cognitive
meetings with students of educational institutions are ongoing in the Human
Rights Defender's Office, contributing to raising children’s awareness and
promoting their active participation in the process of protecting their rights.
