On
January 29, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan attended and delivered a welcoming speech at the exhibition organized
within the framework of the inclusive program “Touching the Manuscripts:
Matenadaran for All” held at the Museum of the Mesrop Mashtots Research
Institute of Ancient Manuscripts.
In
her speech, the Human Rights Defender expressed gratitude for the
implementation of such an important initiative: “I am pleased to realize that
today we have come together around such an important idea. The formation of
solidarity and equal opportunities in society is impossible without joint and
coordinated efforts, and our presence here today is a testament to that
culture. I hope this will not be a one-time event and in the near future we
will have significant and sustainable results in the field.”
Ms.
Anahit Manasyan also emphasized that the Human Rights Defender's Office
regularly addresses accessibility-related issues in cultural and scientific
institutions in its reports, and currently during the preparation of the annual
report, this initiative is also an important signal for talking about positive
changes as well.
“If
we aim to build a legal, human-centered, and value-based state, this is
impossible without fully guaranteeing equal opportunities for everyone. This is
the only way to form a society based on solidarity and dignified living. For
us, the principle "nothing for us, without us" is of fundamental
importance. I extend my gratitude to all individuals and institutions who
initiated and made this important idea a reality,” the Defender concluded.
The
event was attended by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of
the Republic of Armenia, Chairman of the Matenadaran’s Board of Trustees Ms.
Zhanna Andreasyan, Director of the Matenadaran Mr. Ara Khzmalyan, Director of
the “House of Culture after Socrates Shahnazaryan” of the Armenian Blind Union,
expert of the “Touching the Manuscripts: Matenadaran for All” program Mr. Sipan
Asatryan, representatives of civil society, the education sector and others.
The
“Touching the Manuscripts: Matenadaran for All” thematic educational program is
dedicated to the art of manuscript creation through tangible copies (leather
binding, reed and feather pens, parchment sample, linen threads, headband,
lining, ruling). In order to convey the spirit of the Middle Ages, participants
will have the opportunity to listen to medieval music and feel the aroma of
medieval aromatic essential oils. The target group of the program includes
persons over 4 years old living in Yerevan and the provinces of Armenia with
1st and 2nd degree vision impairments. The museum has installed tangible
miniatures of the exhibition samples. The tangible copies of the manuscripts of
Grigor Narekatsi's "Book of Prayer", Movses Khorenatsi's "History
of Armenia", the Malatya Gospel, and Ferdowsi’s "Shahnameh" have
been prepared.
During
the implementation of the program, field experts will conduct consultations on
the preparatory work for the exhibits and educational program.
