On
November 24, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan, hosted a delegation headed by Mr. Luis Graça, Vice-President of the
OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the OSCE PA Special Representative on the South
Caucasus.
Welcoming
the guests, Ms. Anahit Manasyan outlined the main directions of her activities
and addressed the key challenges in the field of human rights protection in Armenia.
The
interlocutors referred a number of human rights-related issues, including the
importance of preventing discrimination, hate speech, and an atmosphere of
intolerance, as well as the efforts undertaken in this direction.
The
Human Rights Defender referred to a number of rights-related issues, including,
inter alia, the protection of the rights of persons forcibly displaced from
Nagorno-Karabakh, the importance of safeguarding rights guarantees within the
framework of criminal proceedings, and the criteria for the lawfulness of
detention.
From
a human rights perspective, Anahit Manasyan specifically addressed the
problematic nature of the processes conducted against Armenians arbitrarily
deprived of their liberty in Azerbaijan.
Inter
alia, the parties also discussed opportunities for further expanding
cooperation in the field of human rights protection and promotion.
