On
November 11, Mr. Andranik Yeghoyan, Secretary General of the Human Rights
Defender's Office of the Republic of Armenia, and Ms. Zhanna Hakobyan, Director
of Center for Research, Expertise, and Educational Center of the Human Rights
Defender's Office, participated in an event dedicated to the main results of
the CoE Comprehensive Response Package to the Refugee Influx in Armenia.
During
a high-level panel discussion dedicated to the development and implementation
of the package, Mr. Andranik Yeghoyan noted that the protection of the rights
of forcibly displaced persons and refugees is one of the priority areas of the
Human Rights Defender's activities. Sectoral studies record, analyze and
address the existing problems along with relevant solutions to the competent
bodies.
Particularly
emphasizing the high-level and mutually trusting cooperation established with
the Council of Europe, the Secretary General of the Human Rights Defender’s
Office emphasized that the programs implemented within the framework of the CoE
Comprehensive Response Package were targeted in various directions,
significantly contributed to the identification of sectoral problems and the
development and implementation of solution mechanisms.
The
program significantly contributed to the development of the capacities of the
Human Rights Defender's Office of the Republic of Armenia, including the
practice in crisis situations, the development of monitoring capabilities and
several other areas.
Ms.
Zhanna Hakobyan referred the problems related to ensuring the rights of
children in the migration process during the panel discussion on strengthening
the protection of children's rights, emphasizing the cooperation of the Human
Rights Defender's Office with the Council of Europe and the implemented
programs in this direction.
“It
is extremely important that the Council of Europe implements programs aimed at
making children’s voices heard and continues supporting the activities of the
Public Council on Children’s Rights adjunct to the Human Rights Defender,” Ms.
Hakobyan noted.
During
the discussion, the importance of further developing cooperation was
emphasized, with the aim of enhancing the protection level of the rights of
refugees and displaced persons, applying international best practices, and
implementing effective joint initiatives with partner organizations.
