75 years ago, the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) was opened for signature.
This day once again reminds us of the importance of the fundamental values on which the Council of Europe is built — human rights, the rule of law, and democracy.
The ECHR is the cornerstone that has established a core system for the protection of human rights and continues to be a guide for states on the path to improving their human rights protection mechanisms.
This day is another opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to strengthening and improving systems for the guarantee and effective protection of rights.
