On
October 7, on the instructions of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of
Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, representatives of the Human Rights Defender’s
Office conducted visits to the “Nubarashen” and “Vardashen” penitentiary
institutions under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia. Within
the framework of the visit, confidential interviews were held, including with
Mr. Arsen Ghukasyan.
The
situation regarding the protection of individuals’ rights, including the right
to health care and the conditions of detention was examined.
The
issues raised by persons deprived of their liberty were discussed with the
administrations of penitentiary institutions and representatives of the
"Center for Penitentiary Medicine" SNCO.
The
details of the visits are confidential and are not subject to publication.
The
results will be summarized and the necessary clarifications regarding the
identified issues will be requested from the competent authorities.
