On
August 7, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia Ms. Anahit Manasyan visited one
of the modular military units of the Ministry of Defense.
During
the visit, the Defender, accompanied by the command staff of the military unit
and representatives of the Human Rights Defender’s Office, toured the military
unit and got acquainted with the living conditions of the servicemen, as well
as the quality of the nutrition and the provided medical services.
Issues
related to human rights in the armed forces were discussed with the command
staff, including the rights of female servicemen, the social security of
servicemen, increasing discipline, the moral and psychological state of
servicemen, the right to health care, housing provision, and the position of an
officer-psychologist, etc.
The
Human Rights Defender reaffirmed that the protection of the rights of
servicemen and their families is one of the priorities of her activities.
The
issues in the sphere are summarized in the Human Rights Defender's Office, and
will be sent, along with recommendations of the registered issues, to the
competent state bodies.
The
Human Rights Defender emphasizes the high-level cooperation established with
the Ministry of Defense, which continuously has a positive impact in the
framework of finding solutions to numerous human rights issues in the armed
forces.
