On
June 25, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of
Armenia Ms. Anahit Manasyan delivered a welcoming speech at the closing
ceremony of the “Empowering Women’s Rights Defenders in Armenia” program
implemented by the Liberal Policy Institute.
In
her speech, Ms. Anahit Manasyan highly appreciated the cooperation with the
Liberal Policy Institute, assessing it as consistent, purposeful and effective.
She
emphasized that the perceptions of the field of equality in the wide range of
society are distorted and the field is often not considered as a priority field
requiring a solution. In this context, the Defender emphasized that behind the
problems in the field are real people and lives, which we cannot ignore and not
pay priority attention to.
“For
example, early marriages continue to be widespread in some communities, as a
result of which girls are excluded from education and deprived of any
opportunity for personal development and self-realization. It is necessary not
only to raise this problem, but also to take systematic steps to radically
improve the situation,” noted Ms. Anahit Manasyan.
The
Defender also made a special reference to the problems of the rights of mothers
caring for children with disabilities, emphasizing the importance of ensuring
access to services for them, expanding social guarantees, and creating
opportunities for economic participation.
“We
must create an environment where every citizen, regardless of gender or social
status, will feel that their rights are fully protected,” the Defender noted in
conclusion.
The
President of the Liberal Policy Institute, Ms. Tatevik Matinyan, and the
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
to the Republic of Armenia, H.E. Ms. Marieke Monroy-Winter, delivered welcoming
remarks.
Within
the framework of the program, Director of Center for Research, Expertise, and
Educational Center of the Human Rights Defender’s Office, Meri Mamikonyan,
presented the Human Rights Defender's ad hoc report on Women's Economic Rights,
developed in cooperation with the Liberal Policy Institute.
The
program "Empowering Women’s Rights Defenders in Armenia" is
implemented by the Liberal Policy Institute with the support of the Embassy of
the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Armenia.
