"June 20 is celebrated as World Refugee Day,
creating another opportunity to raise awareness of the issues of refugees and
asylum seekers, as well as to emphasize the importance of protecting their
rights.
The protection of the rights of refugees, asylum seekers
and displaced persons is one of the key directions of the Human Rights
Defender’s work. This work includes sectoral analyses, reports, cooperation
with intergovernmental and international structures, as well as
awareness-raising initiatives. In this context, the activities aimed at
responding to the problems of persons forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh
in recent years are particularly important. The Defender consistently continues
to raise issues of protecting their rights, emphasizing the need for proper
implementation of international obligations and the restoration of violated
rights.
Unfortunately, today the number of refugees in the world
is continuously increasing. The events of 2023 are a clear example of this, as
they led to the displacement of the entire ethnic Armenian population of
Nagorno-Karabakh, creating a deep humanitarian crisis.
This was also evidenced by the events that took place in
2023, which led to the displacement of the entire ethnic Armenian population of
Nagorno-Karabakh, creating a deep humanitarian crisis.
These realities force us to review and improve the
mechanisms for the protection of rights to ensure the full realization of the
fundamental rights of forcibly displaced persons, refugees and asylum seekers.
State bodies, civil society, and all organizations
involved in the field of human rights protection must join efforts to guarantee
a dignified and safe life for these individuals."
