The
Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, as part
of a delegation of the Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of
Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT), conducted a
working visit to Scotland (United Kingdom) from 4 to 13 June.
The
purpose of the CPT delegation’s visit was to examine the treatment and
conditions of detention of persons deprived of their liberty in Scottish
penitentiary institutions, and secure care accommodation for minors, as well as
to assess the progress made since the CPT’s visits in 2018 and 2019.
The
delegation also visited several police stations to examine the treatment,
conditions of detention and safeguards for persons held in police custody.
Within
the framework of the working visit, Ms. Anahit Manasyan participated in a
number of high-level meetings.
At
the end of the visit, the delegation presented its preliminary findings to the
Scottish authorities.
