On
May 26, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan received Ms. Clare Ovey, Director General of the Directorate General
for Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe, and Ms. Lilit
Daneghyan-Bosler, the Deputy Head of the Council of Europe (CoE) Department for
Cooperation Programmes in the Field of Justice and Human Rights.
Ms.
Anahit Manasyan, welcoming the guests, highly appreciated the effective
cooperation established with the Council of Europe, especially emphasizing the
importance of joint programs in the development of the human rights protection
system in Armenia.
The
interlocutors touched upon the protection of the rights of forcibly displaced
persons from Nagorno-Karabakh, persons with disabilities, children, as well as
mechanisms to combat hate speech.
Within
the framework of the discussion, issues related to the cooperation between the
Human Rights Defender’s Office and the General Directorate for Human Rights and
the Rule of Law were also addressed, in particular, the organization of
capacity-building activities for the HRDO staff.
The
guests, in turn, expressed gratitude for the reception and emphasized the
important mission of the Human Rights Defender’s Office in the protection of
human rights, noting that ongoing effective cooperation will contribute to
overcoming the challenges in the field.
