On
May 22, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan, participated online in the international conference titled
“Accountability for Human Rights in Action: Institutional Responses to the
Recommendations of the Ombudsperson and the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on
Advancing Human Rights”.
The
conference was organized by the Ombudsman Office of the Republic of North
Macedonia in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP).
Within
the framework of the panel discussion titled “Financial and Institutional
Independence of the Ombudsperson Institution-Current Status and Sharing of Good
Practices”, Ms. Anahit Manasyan was invited to present the experience of the
Human Rights Defender Institution of the Republic of Armenia in this area, as
well as her experience during the accreditation of the Human Rights Defender’s
Office of Armenia carried out within the framework of the UN in 2024, as a
result of which the Human Rights Defender Institution of Armenia was
re-accredited as an institution with “A” status of independence and
credibility.
The
Defender emphasized the crucial importance of institutional and financial
independence in ensuring the effectiveness and independent functioning of
national human rights institutions, also emphasizing the need to strengthen
public trust and achieve sustainable results in the field of human rights
protection.
The
participation of the Defender once again emphasized the institution's
commitment to strengthening international cooperation in the field of human
rights. The Human Rights Defender’s Office continuously expands its
partnerships on international platforms, contributing to the exchange of
experience, joint initiatives, and the localization of international standards.
