Congratulatory message of the Human Rights Defender of
the Republic of Armenia Ms. Anahit Manasyan on the occasion of the Labor Day
“Dear compatriots,
I congratulate you on May 1 - International Labor Day.
This day is yet another occasion to highlight the
importance of protecting everyone’s labor rights.
A number of problems related to the proper implementation
of labor rights remain actual in our country.
The studies of the HRDO staff and examination of received
complaints allow us to record the existing problems in the context of ensuring
safe and dignified working conditions, right to rest, fair pay, including the
right to be paid for overtime work, and the need for additional efforts in that
direction.
The issue of excluding discrimination in the labor market
remains problematic. In this regard, it is especially important to address the
problem of lower participation of women in the labor market, to provide
effective structures for the exclusion of sexual harassment in the workplace.
It is also essential to make more consistent and comprehensive efforts to
ensure the labor rights of persons with disabilities, including the provision
of an accessible working environment.
It is the state's obligation to promote the creation and
strengthening of a dignified, equal and safe working environment, where
everyone will have the opportunity to implement their abilities and potential.
I also consider it important to take appropriate measures
of state control over the provision of labor rights, as well as the
implementation of measures aimed at increasing the level of awareness of labor
rights among employees and employers.
Dear compatriots,
I wish all of us effective and creative work in equal and
safe conditions, and emphasize the need for continuous active steps by the
competent authorities of Republic of Armenia in the direction of strengthening
proper structures for the protection of labor rights.”
