The
Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan welcomes
the statement by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, calling for
immediate release of all the arbitrarily detained in Azerbaijan, including
ethnic Armenians.
The
Defender emphasizes that all actors with a mandate in the field, including
international organisations, must take swift and appropriate action to resolve
this problem. Within her mandate, the Defender continues to address these
concerns with relevant human rights institutions.
It
should be noted that during the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in
Geneva, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk presented a
comprehensive report in which he specifically addressed the problem of
arbitrarily detained in Azerbaijan, including ethnic Armenians. He stated that
“they must be released immediately, and fair trail rights must be respected
fully”.
