The Human Rights Defender’s Office has made regular unannounced visits to Nubarashen penitentiary institution of the RA Ministry of Justice to examine the health and detention conditions of Arayik Khandoyan, Armen Bilyan and Smbat Barseghyan who are on hunger strike.
On January 8, during the visit Arayik Khandoyan noted that he regularly has acute kidney pain, dizziness, nausea, headaches, leg pain. The issue of conducting an urgent medical examination was raised in connection with his health condition. According to the Penitentiary service of the RA Ministry of Justice, a visit of a doctor to Nubarashen penitentiary institution has already been organized for that purpose. The Human Rights Defender’s Office will remain seized of this matter.
Discussion procedures have also been initiated on issues related to the health conditions of Armen Bilyan and Smbat Barseghyan, as well as to their transfer to Armavir penitentiary institution. During the first visit, immediate steps were taken to eliminate humidity in Armen Bilyan's cell. Besides, respective written requests were sent to the RA Ministry of Justice. Armen Bilyan and Smbat Barseghyan were also informed about this.
The Human Rights Defender’s Office is constantly in contact with the advocates of Arayik Khandoyan, Armen Bilyan and Smbat Barseghyan.
