The Human Rights Winter School has officially launched.
It was organized at the initiative of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic
of Armenia in cooperation with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
Armenia Office.
On February 19, 25 law students from various universities
in Armenia, selected through a competitive process, visited the Human Rights
Defender’s Office to familiarize themselves with the institution’s principles
and mandates.
Welcoming the future lawyers, the Human Rights Defender
Ms. Anahit Manasyan congratulated them on their selection and emphasized that
the Winter School provides an excellent opportunity to deepen their knowledge
in the field, develop professional ethics, and build both professional and
personal connections.
“Dear students, dear participants of the first Human
Rights Winter School program, for me and my colleagues, it is extremely
important to be able to jointly achieve satisfactory results in the
implementation of this program. For National Human Rights institutions (NHRIs)
and the Human Rights Defender’s Office of the Republic Armenia, the function of
not only protecting human rights, but also promoting human rights plays a key
role, which is implemented, among other things, through human rights education.
I am confident that this platform will serve that purpose while also helping us
collectively identify areas in need of improvement within the field,” stated
the Defender.
In her speech, Ms. Anahit Manasyan highlighted the
importance of collaboration with UNDP and expressed gratitude for their joint
efforts in bringing the Human Rights Winter School to life.
The meeting was conducted in an interactive format, where
students shared their perspectives on the field and also asked questions to the
Defender.
Students participated in a tour of the Human Rights
Defender’s Office.
During the meeting, students were introduced to the
program planned for the upcoming days within the framework of the Winter
School. The agenda includes visits to various Government Agencies, meetings
with high-ranking officials, and discussions with leading experts in the field.
The Winter School is implemented within the framework of
the program "Promotion of Human Rights Protection and Strengthening of
National Institutions" funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP, UNICEF
and UNFPA.
