On February 18, the Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit
Manasyan delivered a video message at the closing ceremony of the Council of
Europe project "Fostering human rights in the armed forces in Armenia."
In her speech, Ms. Anahit Manasyan emphasized that the
cooperation with international organizations specialised in the field of human
rights protection in the armed forces is of particular importance for the Human
Rights Defender’s Office.
"Undoubtedly, the best examples of such cooperation
are the targeted projects aimed at promoting and protecting human rights in the
armed forces of Armenia, implemented with the support of the Council of Europe.
I must highlight that within the activity framework of
the "Fostering human rights in the armed forces in Armenia" project,
we were able to carry out a number of initiatives with our partners.
Undoubtedly, the project also contributed to strengthening of the capacities of
the specialized division within my staff, the Division for the Protection of
the Rights of Servicemen and Their Family Members," stated the Defender.
Among the key activities implemented within the project,
Ms. Anahit Manasyan highlighted the launch of the "Citizen in
Uniform" mobile application, the launch of the Armenian version of the
HELP Course on Human Rights in the Armed Forces, the jointly organized session
of the Expert Council on Human Rights Protection in the Armed Forces adjunct to
the Human Rights Defender, a study visit to the Netherlands, which facilitated
the examination of best practices in protecting human rights in the armed
forces.
In conclusion, Ms. Anahit Manasyan expressed hope that
the Council of Europe’s projects aimed at fostering human rights in the armed
forces of Armenia will continue.
Head of the Division for the Protection of the Rights of
Servicemen and Their Family Members, Mr. Andranik Yeghoyan, also reflected on
the project’s outcomes, highly appreciating the cooperation between the Council
of Europe partners and Armenian state institutions within the project’s
framework. Mr. Andranik Yeghoyan emphasized that the project has significantly
contributed to strengthening the capacities of the Human Rights Defender’s
Office from a sectoral perspective.
