On January 24, on the initiative of the Human Rights
Defender, a discussion was held regarding the recent amendments to the Tax
Code, particularly the increased tax burden on providers of legal services.
The meeting was attended by representatives of civil
society organizations, the Chamber of Advocates, and relevant state bodies,
including the State Revenue Committee, the Supreme Judicial Council, and the
Ministries of Finance and Justice.
Representatives of civil society organizations and the
Chamber of Advocates expressed numerous concerns regarding the amendments,
particularly the taxation of free legal aid, as a result of which legal
protection measures become virtually inaccessible to the general public, which
is a serious issue from a human rights perspective.
The Human Rights Defender emphasizes the importance of
holding such discussions and developing joint solutions.
