On
January 24, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, received
Stephan Malerius, Head of the Regional Programme “Political Dialogue South
Caucasus” of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
Welcoming
the guest, Anahit Manasyan emphasized the importance of the stable and
effective cooperation established between the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and
the Human Rights Defender's Office in the field of human rights protection.
During
the meeting, key areas of the Human Rights Defender's work were presented,
including, the rights of women, children, national minorities, persons with
disabilities, members of the armed forces, forcibly displaced persons, and the
right to freedom of assembly. The interlocutors emphasized the significance of
efforts made within the framework of combating hate speech, intolerance, and
discrimination.
In
this context, Defender noted that these phenomena are widely prevalent not only
in Armenia but also globally, which is unacceptable. The use of hate speech
within the academic community, by political and public figures, and in the media
is especially concerning.
Anahit
Manasyan specifically emphasized that all manifestations of hate speech must be
eliminated from public discourse.
Stephan
Malerius, in turn, thanked Anahit Manasyan for the reception and the productive
discussion.
The
discussion outlined the areas of future cooperation.
