On August 5, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan and UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Françoise Jacob made a joint visit to the Tavush province.
Representatives of the Defender and the UN Office in Armenia also participated in the visit.
Anahit Manasyan and Françoise Jacob had a meeting with Governor of Tavush - Hayk Ghalumyan, in Ijevan.
The latter presented the existing problems in the region, as well as the existing socio-economic issues. Issues related to the rights of women, children and people with disabilities, women's employment, environmental rights, and the rights of forcibly displaced persons were raised. Issues related to the protection of the rights of residents of border settlements were also discussed.
In this context, Anahit Manasyan emphasized that the UN is one of the important partners of the Defender's Office, and plays a serious role in terms of the development of the human rights protection system in Armenia. The Defender expressed confidence that with joint efforts it will be possible to continuously implement various projects in Tavush province.
Françoise Jacob also emphasized the importance of cooperation with the Human Rights Defender and the joint projects implemented in the regions.

In her speech, the Defender noted that both in Armenia and throughout the world, women's rights are discussed in an extensive and interesting methodology, and their main goal is to guarantee equality between women and men, overcoming existing stereotypes, formation of a proper understanding of the role of women and promotion of women's potential in public and political life.
''Women are very often targeted on grounds that men would never be. At the same time, if you have chosen some path to make a difference in both your life and people's lives, never get discouraged by all these challenges. We ourselves must be the authors of the changes that we want to see in our environment, and we must determine the quality of our lives as a result of the choices we have made and the decisions we have made'', - said Anahit Manasyan.
During the discussion among other issues, problems were raised regarding the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, including provision of personal assistant services, accessibility of the physical environment and to a number of other issues.
''We all have many characteristics. At the same time, we live in the same environment and face seemingly different but similar problems every day. It is important to create an environment in which our characteristics will become the basis of public solidarity. It is essential that joint efforts are made to create an accessible environment for people with disabilities'', - emphasized Anahit Manasyan.
At the end of the visit to Tavush, Anahit Manasyan and Françoise Jacob visited children receiving alternative care in the Armenian Charitable Foundation "SOS Children's Villages".
The Defender and UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia toured the area accompanied by the National Director of the Armenian Charitable Foundation "SOS Children's Villages" - Spartak Sargsyan. They got acquainted with the organization of child care, the state of ensuring rights, they also had private conversations with children, listened to their concerns.
A visit was also made to a foster family, and the conditions of child care provision were studied.
The Defender undertakes to implement all the tools relevant to her mandate to solve the problems identified during the visit.
