On June 5, the Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit Manasyan
paid a working visit to Ararat province.
The Defender held a meeting with Mr. Sedrak Tevonyan, the
Governor of Ararat province, and discussed a number of issues related to the
protection of human rights in the region.
Subsequently, Ms. Manasyan visited Dimitrov community.
During the visit, the Defender held discussions with the residents, including
representatives of the Assyrian community, listened to the problems raised by
them, and registered them for the purpose of addressing and solving them.
The administrative head of the community also presented
to the Defender a number of issues related to the rights of the residents.
Ms. Manasyan also visited Dimitrov secondary school and
met its faculty.
During the meeting, Ms. Manasyan presented the directions
of activities of the Defender's Office, referred to the rights of the child,
and the right to education, and the fight against discrimination and
intolerance. The Defender also underlined the issues related to the rights of
the faculty, and various solutions were discussed. The registered issues will
be presented to the competent state bodies.
A visit was also made to secondary school after Torgom
Postajyan in Baghramyan village of Ararat province, where the Defender was
present at the final stage of the intellectual game "Road to the Sun"
(«Ճանապարհ դեպի արև»).
Welcoming the participants of the game, Ms. Manasyan
wished them success, emphasizing:
"Knowledge is the great wealth that is impossible to
lose. Be sure, knowing all this will open new doors of success for you. I would
also like to express my commitment to support you in any matter within the
mandate of the Defender."
Ms. Manasyan also held meetings with the representatives
of the Assyrian community in the Dimitrov community. Issues related to the
protection and promotion of the rights of Assyrians living in Armenia were
discussed during the meeting.
Ms. Manasyan emphasized again that the protection and
promotion of the rights of national minorities is one of the important
directions of her activities.
“It is extremely
important to guarantee the rights of people belonging to national minorities to
preserve their national and ethnic identity, preserve and develop traditions,
language, religion and culture, as well as the active involvement of national
minority communities" added Ms. Manasyan.
