In response to the alarming-call received by the lawyer,
as well as the information disseminated on social media platforms that
91-year-old Mr. Surik Gevorgyan was evicted from the apartment and the latter
was left without a place to stay, we consider it necessary to emphasize that an
urgent analysis of the alarming-call has been initiated at the Defender’s
Office, based on the instructions of the Human Rights Defender.
At the moment, discussions are underway with the
competent departments regarding the issue of providing the citizen with an
accommodation.
In particular, on the recommendation of the Defender, the
employees of the United Social Service visited Mr. Gevorgyan to carry out a
needs assessment on site.
Furthermore, on May 22, the Defender’s Office received a
verbal complaint that Mr. Gevorgyan was given a 2-day period based on the
owner's application to leave the apartment. As a matter of urgency, the raised
issue was discussed with the Police by the representatives of the Defender,
through written and oral procedures.
As a result of the intervention of the Human Rights
Defender, and taking into consideration the citizen's age and health condition,
the implementation of eviction order was extended by 10 days. This issue is
under the direct attention of the Human Rights Defender, and contact is
maintained both with the lawyer and the competent departments.
