Since the first day of assemblies and protest actions
started in Tavush Region and other settlements of the republic, including in
Yerevan, the Office of the Human Rights Defender has been working in emergency
mode on the instructions of Defender
Anahit Manasyan.
Since April 22, HRD rapid response groups have made more
than 25 visits to police departments, medical institutions, and had private
conversations with more than 300 people.
A number of problems that arose during the mentioned
period, including the apparently disproportionate use of force by the competent
authorities, problems related to guaranteeing minimum rights, depriving the
deputy of his freedom, apparently hindering the professional activities of
journalists, excluding hate speech, guaranteeing the best interests of
children, obstructing participation in gatherings and coercing participation in
assemblies and on many other issues the Defender Anahit Manasyan made public
statements posted on the ombuds.am website.
Many problems were solved as a result of communication
with competent authorities.
At this moment, the monitoring of the media and social
platforms, as well as the analysis of the alarms received by the HRD staff, are
continuing.
We consider it necessary to emphasize that the HRD staff
continues to ensure the full and effective implementation of the powers assigned
to the Defender by the Constitution and the constitutional law "On Human
Rights Defender".
Taking into account the above, we urge you to refrain
from statements without factual grounds defaming the reputation of the
Defender's Institution and to act in accordance with ethical principles.
