On
April 24, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia Anahit Manasyan
gave an interview to British mass media representatives.
The
Defender presented the issues related to human rights in Armenia to the media
representatives of The Guardian, The Independent, The Guardian/The Critic, The
Telegraph/The Critic Adam Smith Institute, BBC, UnHerd, and addressed the
issues related to the rights of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno
Karabakh.
Anahit
Manasyan stated that in order to observe the state of ensuring the rights of
forcibly displaced persons on the spot, starting from September 24, 2023, she
personally and her staff representatives visited the registration centers
located in Kornidzor, Goris and Vaik, private interviews were held with more
than 350 forcibly displaced persons, and during that time, information was
received about death, torture, desecration of bodies, mutilation and
ill-treatment of civilians, prohibited by international law. The mentioned
information was included in the ad hoc report of the Human Rights Defender,
which was presented by the Defender to the international organizations and
actors with a mandate to protect human rights, with the confidential section
proving the authenticity of the information.
The
Defender referred to the state of protection of the rights of the residents of
the border settlements of the Republic of Armenia. In this context, Anahit
Manasyan stated that on April 11 and 12, she met with the residents and
administrative heads of Movses, Nerkin Karmiraghbyur, Berkaber, Voskepar,
Voskevan, Kirants settlements in Tavush region together with the HRD staff, in
order to record the problems.
