On
February 16, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, received
the delegation led by US Ambassador to Armenia H.E. Kristina Alyson Kvien.
Welcoming
the guests, Anahit Manasyan presented the activities of the Defender,
emphasizing the protection of the rights of women, children, national
minorities, persons with disabilities, the right to freedom of assembly, civil
and socio-economic rights, protection of the rights of persons in the armed
forces, criminal proceedings, hate speech, the atmosphere of intolerance, the
activities carried out in the framework of the fight against discrimination and
in a number of other areas.
The
Defender also presented issues related to the protection of the rights of
forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh: she specifically referred to
the fact-finding activities carried out by her personally and by the staff. The
documented information was summarized in the ad hoc report of the Human Rights
Defender.
Within
the framework of the meeting, a reference was made to the programs implemented
by USAID/Armenia in the field of human rights protection, which contribute to
the development of democracy and the legal environment.

Ambassador to Armenia H.E. Kristina Alyson Kvien expressed her gratitude for
the reception and for the effective discussion, highlighting the activity of
the Defender's Office in strengthening the proper system of human rights
protection.
