Within
the framework of a two-day visit to Tbilisi, the Human Rights Defender Anahit
Manasyan had a meeting with the members of the councils of religions and ethnic
minorities adjunct to the Public Defender of Georgia.
During
the meeting, the members of the council presented to the Defender the
directions, goals and objectives of their activities. Anahit Manasyan discussed
a number of issues related to the protection and promotion of their rights with
representatives of non-governmental organizations represented in the council,
including non-governmental organizations engaged in the protection of the
rights of Armenians in Georgia. In this context, the Defender especially
emphasized that she is in close contact with Georgian partners and regularly
discusses issues related to the rights of the Armenian community.
Anahit
Manasyan also informed that a public council for the protection and promotion
of the rights of persons belonging to national minorities adjunct to the Human
Rights Defender of Armenia was created. The council includes representatives of
non-governmental organizations engaged in the protection of the rights of
national minorities living in the Republic of Armenia, including from the
Georgian community.
The
objectives and directions of work of the council were also presented. Within
the framework of the meeting, an agreement was reached with the members of the
councils of religions and ethnic minorities adjunct to the Defender of Georgia
on further cooperation.
