On
November 29, the Human Rights Defender, Ms. Anahit Manasyan received the
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Armenia, H.E. Mr.
Olivier Decottignies.
The
Defender presented to the Ambassador the issues on protection of the rights of
people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, referred to the fact-finding
activities conducted by her personally and the representatives of the Human
Rights Defender's Office, during which the results of the deaths, tortures,
disrespect of bodies, mutilations and ill-treatment of civilians and other
cases prohibited by international law as a result of the Azerbaijani aggression
were obtained.
Within
the framework of the meeting, the issues on human rights protection caused by
the border security of the Republic of Armenia were discussed. Introducing the
results of the fact-finding activities, the Defender highlighted that the state
of human rights protection in the border settlements as a result of the
Azerbaijani aggression is quite concerning.
The
Defender also referred to the directions and priorities of the institution's
activities, including the protection of the rights of children, women and
persons with disabilities as well as the fight against intolerance and hate
speech.
On
his turn, Ambassador H.E. Mr. Olivier Decottignies expressed his gratitude for
the reception and highlighted the role of the Human Rights Defender's Office in
the implementation of the significant mission of human rights protection.
