On
November 13, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan was hosted at the
Academy of Public Administration of the Republic of Armenia. The goal was to
conduct a master class for students on the topic "Protection of Human Rights
in the situation of Crisis".
Welcoming
the participants of the discussion, Anahit Manasyan presented her professional
journey, talked about how she implements the practical knowledge and skills
that she has acquired over the years in carrying out the mission of the Human
Rights Defender, particularly in the situation of crisis. In this context, the
Defender especially emphasized the importance of proper education on human
rights.
"Without
proper education on human rights, there cannot be a proper system of human
rights protection. From the viewpoint of activity in any field the significance
of professionalism and integrity in any field, asserting that these qualities
are only achievable with a proper educational system," Anahit Manasyan
emphasized.
The
Defender referred to the inadmissibility of hate speech and various
manifestations of intolerance, stressing that these phenomena are very
dangerous from the viewpoint of the protection of human rights. Anahit Manasyan
also presented issues related to the protection of the rights of forcibly
displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh, referred to the fact-finding
activities conducted by her personally and by the staff.
Within
the framework of the master class, the students also addressed their questions
to the Defender.
Answering
the question about being independent and free from the influence of political
power, the Defender emphasized that independence and the importance of being
guided exclusively by the values of human rights are fundamental for her.
"I
have never sought, do not seek, and will not seek to gain personal reputation
by raising issues as an end in itself. My goal is to identify the issues,
address them and by observing all the integrity requirements, to find options
for solutions for them with joint efforts," stated the Defender.
At
the end of the meeting, Anahit Manasyan expressed her gratitude for the active
and meaningful discussion, stressing that she attaches great importance to
meetings of this format in terms of sharing experience, as well as highlighting
existing problems in the field of human rights protection and finding options
for joint solutions.
