Today,
on October 2, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan hosted Björn Linden,
Program Coordinator of the Swedish National Courts Department, and Ludwig
Becking, the Deputy Head of the International Relations Division of the Legal
Department.
The
Defender presented issues on the protection of the rights of people forcibly
displaced from Nagorno Karabakh. In this context, Anahit Manasyan addressed the
problems raised during the fact-finding activities carried out by her
personally and the representatives of the Office of the Human Rights Defender
in the primary needs assessment centers. The Defender particularly emphasized
the necessity of properly guaranteeing the rights of forcibly displaced persons
in the Republic of Armenia.
Anahit
Manasyan also presented the serious humanitarian problems and the violations of
fundamental human rights caused by the Azerbaijani aggression.
The
Defender also presented the priorities of the activities of the Human Rights
Defender’s office, emphasizing her willingness to continue the fight against
intolerance, discrimination and hate speech, as well as the implementation of
work to ensure equality of rights.
During
the meeting, the parties discussed the progress of the multi-year project of
developing capacity of the judges of Armenia to meet the new expectations of
the judicial system and strengthen public trust, emphasizing the importance of
continuous improvement of the justice system, as well as increasing the
efficiency of cooperation between courts and mass media, expressing confidence
that it will increase public confidence in the judiciary.
At
the end of the meeting, the guests expressed their gratitude for the reception,
highly appreciating the role of national human rights protection institutions
in guaranteeing human rights and expressed confidence in future possible
cooperation.
