The
Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan presented the violations of human rights
as a result of the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan in the direction of
Nagorno Karabakh to the delegation headed by Dr. Askar Jalalian, Deputy
Minister of Justice for Human Rights and International affairs of the Islamic
Republic of Iran.
During
the meeting, Anahit Manasyan stated that Azerbaijan grossly violates the
principles of international law, creates a real danger in terms of ensuring the
right to life and security of the civilian population, as well as other
fundamental rights.
Anahit
Manasyan specifically pointed out that Azerbaijani aggression and bellicose
rhetoric pursue the goal of subjecting the civilian population to ethnic
cleansing through the use of force, depriving them of the right to live freely
in their homeland.
"As
a result of the actions of Azerbaijan, all fundamental rights of the civilian
population have been violated in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Today,
people were killed and injured including children, civil infrastructures were
targeted such as schools, residential buildings, etc.," stated the
Defender.
Anahit
Manasyan also presented the issues related to human rights in the border
settlements of the Republic of Armenia as a result of the actions of
Azerbaijan. In this context, the Defender noted that she personally visited
those settlements and implemented fact-finding activity, the results of which
were included in the ad hoc reports.
The
Defender also presented the priorities of the Office of Human Rights Defender
and the main directions of work. In this context, the Defender emphasized the
exchange of skills and experience at the international level between
independent institutions for the protection of human rights.
During
the meeting issues related to the cooperation between Iran and Armenia in the
field of human rights protection and environmental rights were also discussed.
In his turn, Askar Jalalian expressed his readiness to support the development
of cooperation between the two countries in the field of protection of rights.
