Today, on September 12, the Human Rights Defender Anahit
Manasyan hosted the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech
Republic to the Republic of Armenia Petr Pirunchik and Deputy Ambassador Sabina
Nováková.
Anahit Manasyan underscored the significance of
collaboration in the realm of human rights protection with the Czech Republic,
emphasizing that such meetings serve to delineate potential avenues for
cooperation and reinforce the commitment to sustaining these initiatives over
time.
Anahit Manasyan stated that due to the escalating
external security challenges, the responsibilities of the Human Rights Defender
of the Republic of Armenia is becoming even more complicated. In this context,
the Defender presented the state of protection of the rights of residents of
the border settlements of the Republic of Armenia, the consequences of the
humanitarian crisis caused by the blocking of the Lachin Corridor, the results
of the fact-finding activities carried out by the staff, as well as the activities
in order to address the mentioned problems. Additionally, there was a
comprehensive discussion of practical and legislative matters pertaining to the
state of human rights protection within the armed forces.
Within the framework of the meeting, the following
priorities were discussed: human rights education, the protection of rights of
women, children and persons with disabilities and matters related to efforts in
combating hate speech, fostering an atmosphere of tolerance, and addressing
discrimination.
The Defender emphasized the importance of taking steps to
eliminate the environment of legal nihilism in a law-conscious society,
stressing that a systematic approach should be taken to resolve any legal
problem.
The Ambassador Petr Pirunchik thanked for the reception,
highly appreciating the work carried out by the Defender in guaranteeing human
rights and expressing confidence that Armenia-Czech Republic cooperation in the
field of human rights protection will continue to be at a high level.
