Today, on September 8, the most current issues in the
field of human rights protection in Armenia were discussed with the
participation of a number of civil society organizations and representatives of
the Human Rights Defender's office.
The Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan and the
Director of Democracy Development Foundation Naira Sultanyan gave opening
remarks. "Today the problems are many and varied. In this context, the
goals of civil society organizations and the institution of the Human Rights Defender
are the same, despite the differences in the structure of their activities.
This is the first reason why I value cooperation in this format. "Problems
should be constantly raised, and systematic work should be carried out to solve
them, in order to record the results," stated the Defender.
Naira Sultanyan thanked for the willingness to hold the
meeting and emphasized the importance of face-to-face discussion and continuous
cooperation. The participants of the discussion referred to the protection of
human rights in the armed forces and penitentiary institutions, including the
protection of the right to life, the fight against discrimination, the
protection of women's rights, the fight against domestic violence, the
protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, the issue of the use of
violence by the police, the protection of human rights in care centers and a
number of other issues, the problems recorded in relation to them and the ways
of addressing them. During the discussion, the representatives of civil society
organizations and the Human Rights Defender's office engaged in an exchange of
ideas, as well as presented various observations and suggestions. At the end of
the meeting, the main directions of further cooperation were outlined, and an
agreement was reached to organize meetings in this format regularly.
