Today,
on August 9, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan met with the students of
the "Network East-West" exchange program organized by the
Russian-Armenian University and the Humboldt University of Berlin.
Anahit
Manasyan presented the mission of the Human Rights Defender, the main
directions, priorities and scope of competencies, as well as the importance of
guarantees of independence of the Human Rights Defender. She informed the
students that the Defender's institution is an independent, apolitical body,
whose mission is to protect the rights of people in case of violations by state
bodies. In this context, she also emphasized that the institution of the Human
Rights Defender of Armenia has the highest "A" status of independence
approved internationally.

students from Germany and Armenia had the opportunity to discuss several
important questions with the Human Rights Defender, such as the challenges and
issues related to human rights protection, extending beyond national borders to
a global context.
"Such
meetings with students are very important for me, in the context of sharing
experiences, highlighting existing problems in the field of human rights
protection and finding solutions together. Being a lecturer and interacting
with students every day, I consider education and professionalism to be a
priority," stated Anahit Manasyan.
The
Defender referred to the inadmissibility of hate speech and various
manifestations of intolerance, stressing that these phenomena are very
dangerous in the context of the protection of human rights.
The
students were also presented with the violations of fundamental human rights in
the RA border settlements, the results of the fact-finding activities of the
Defender in Syunik, Tavush and Gegharkunik regions, the revealed issues, as
well as the humanitarian situation created as a result of the blocking of the
Lachin corridor.
During
the meeting, the students raised a number of thematic questions, discussions
were held on the current challenges in the field of protection of human rights
and freedoms.
