On
August 4, Ms. Manasyan received the Charge d’Affaires of Ukraine in Armenia,
Mr. Oleksandr Senchenko.
Welcoming
the guest, Ms. Anahit Manasyan highlighted the importance of cooperation with
Ukraine in the field of human rights protection. In this context, the Defender
emphasized that as a result of such meetings, the discussions strengthen the
further opportunities for cooperation in the field of human rights
protection.
Ms.
Anahit Manasyan presented the state of rights protection of the residents of the
border settlements of Armenia, the humanitarian consequences caused by the
blockade of the Lachin Corridor, the results of the fact-finding activities
carried out by the Office, as well as the work being done to address the
mentioned issues. Moreover, the Defender referred to the case of the abduction
of a 68-year-old man by Azerbaijanis who was being transported to Armenia for
treatment. Ms. Anahit Manasyan noted that the illegal interference with the
rights of Vagif Khachatryan is a violation of international legal guarantees
and standards.
The
parties discussed issues related to the protection of the rights of Ukrainians
in Armenia. Ms. Anahit Manasyan assured that she is willing to support any
applicant within the scope of her mandate. Mr. Oleksandr Senchenko, in turn,
thanked the Defender for the reception and expressed willingness to cooperate
in the field of human rights protection.
