The
Secretary General of the Human Rights Defender's Office, Ms. Nina Pirumyan,
participated in the 4th Meeting of the Armenia-EU Partnership Committee
established under the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Extended Partnership
Agreement (CEPA).
The
issues related to the status of the implementation of the road map of CEPA and
sectoral cooperation in the fields of justice, freedom and security, human
rights and democracy, transport, energy, environment, labor and economic
development, education, youth issues, culture, social policy were included in
the agenda.
During
the two-day meeting, the activities carried out within the framework of
sectoral cooperation, the recorded developments, as well as the current issues
and the initiatives aimed at addressing them were discussed.
Particularly,
during the discussion on sectoral cooperation on human rights issues and
democracy, Ms. Nina Pirumyan made a targeted reference to the activities
carried out by the Defender’s Institute, emphasizing the continuity of fact-finding
activities in the border regions of Armenia, the recorded cases of violations
of fundamental human rights and the Human Rights Defender's recommendations
aimed at addressing the issues. She further referred to the need to improve the
monitoring mechanisms of the draft National Strategy for Human Rights
Protection, highlighting the role of the Ombudsman Institution.
Ms.
Pirumyan reflected on the priority need of providing legislative and practical
basis for non-discrimination mechanisms, the commitment of the Human Rights
Defender to act as an equality body and the State's obligation to provide the
necessary financial and human resources in this regard, issues on gender
equality, capacity building of law enforcement bodies in the fight against hate
speech and hate crime as well as other human rights issues.
The
issues raised within the framework of the RA-EU dialogue will be continuously
discussed during future meetings.
