On June 27, the Human Rights Defender, Ms Anahit Manasyan
received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic
of Brazil, Mr. Fabio Vaz Pitaluga.
Ms. Anahit Manasyan presented the priorities of the Human Rights
Defender Institution, emphasizing that both Armenia and the whole world are
living in a period full of challenges, where it is essential to more
consistently and diligently protect human rights and fundamental freedoms.
The Defender specifically referred to the issues on human rights
protection caused by the border security of the Republic of Armenia, the
results of the fact-finding activities carried out in Syunik, Gegharkunik
provinces and Yeraskh community, noting that the situation of human rights
protection in the border communities is very worrying as a result of
Azerbaijani aggression. In this context, the Defender noted that the rights to
life, physical and mental integrity, property, education, free movement, as well
as other fundamental rights are being violated in the border regions.
The parties also discussed the humanitarian situation created as
a result of the blockade of the Lachin Corridor, noting that the created
situation prepares a fertile ground for continuous violations of fundamental
human rights.
In his turn, Mr. Fabio Vaz Pitaluga highly appreciated the work
carried out by Ms. Anahit Manasyan in the field of human rights protection,
expressing his willingness to continue fruitful and constructive cooperation.
