On May 30, the Human Rights Defender, Ms. Anahit Manasyan
received the delegation led by Mr. Morten Kjaerum, Director of the Raoul
Wallenberg Institute.
Welcoming the guests, the Defender particularly emphasized the
importance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Human Rights
Defender’s Office of the Republic of Armenia and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute
for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law located in Lund, Sweden, on December 15,
2022.
Ms. Anahit Manasyan noted that it’s necessary to continue the
cooperation in the same spirit. In this context, both sides emphasized that the
Armenian representation of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, the opening ceremony
of which took place today in Yerevan, will be an important impetus for
effective cooperation.
In his turn, Mr. Morten Kjaerum, Director of the Institute,
expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and reaffirmed his willingness
to contribute to the improvement and more effective enforcement of legislation
and standards in the field of human rights in the Republic of Armenia.
Within the framework of the meeting, the Defender also presented
issues on the protection of the rights of residents of border settlements,
reflected on the priorities of the Institution, including the protection of the
rights of children, women and persons with disabilities, the fight against the
atmosphere of intolerance and hate speech among the public.
