Today,
on May 18, the Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit Manasyan hosted the delegation
headed by the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program
(UNDP) in Armenia, Ms. Natia Natsvlishvili.
During
the meeting, issues related to the institutional strengthening of the
Defender’s Office, protection of the rights of the child, gender equality, and
combating all forms of discrimination and hate speech were discussed.
Welcoming
the guests, the Defender highlighted the importance of the cooperation with the
UNDP, and the effectiveness of the joint programs which are being implemented.
A
specific reference was made to the “Accountable Institutions and Human Rights
Protection in Armenia" project, which is aimed at developing the
monitoring capacities of the Defender’s Office, expanding and strengthening its
regional sub-divisions, and the implementation of educational programs in the
sphere of human rights protection. The project is financed by the European
Union, and is implemented by UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA and the OSCE.
During
the meeting, Ms. Manasyan referred to the issues that were raised and
registered as a result of the fact-finding activities in Syunik and Gegharkunik
provinces, and the human rights violations in the border communities as a
result of the acts of the Azerbaijani armed forces.
The
interlocutors also discussed other projects implemented by UNDP Armenia,
including the activities being implemented in the context of the “Strengthening
the Capacities of National Mine Action Authorities in Armenia” project, and the
cooperation with the Human Rights Defender’s Office in the framework of the
mentioned project.
The
Defender, and the Resident Representative reaffirmed their readiness to
continue their cooperation in various directions.
