The
Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan made an opening speech at the event of
the program of the Council of Europe "Support to the Effective Execution
of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in Armenia”.
The Defender
emphasized the implementation of the project in our country and expressed her
willingness to support its successful course within the scope of her
competences and mandate.
"Actions
have been carried out in our country in the direction of the realization of
fundamental human rights and improvement of the protection system. Today, there
is a need to continue and multiply these works, and serious steps must be taken
in this direction. It is important to solve the existing problems in this field
and guarantee the strengthening of the human-centered society in Armenia. It is
a priority for the Human Rights Defender, and this program is one of the best
opportunities for the formation and improvement of such a system. The Human
Rights Defender and the whole staff are ready to prove their commitment in the
mentioned field not only by word, but also by work," stated Anahit
Manasyan in his speech.
The
event was also attended by Martina Schmidt, the Head of the European Council office
in Yerevan, Lilit Daneghian, Deputy Head of Cooperation Programmes Division on
Justice and Human Rights, Pavlo Pushkar, Head of Division at the Department for
the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, Lilit
Tadevosyan, the President of the Court of Cassation of RA, Levon Balyan, Deputy
Minister of Justice, Arpine Sargsyan, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, and
Yeghishe Kirakosyan the Representative on international legal issues from the
Office of the Representative on international legal matters.
The
purpose of the project is to support the effective application of European
human rights standards in Armenia, paying special attention to the problems of
excessive length of court proceedings, non-execution or late execution of
domestic court judgments, effective judicial supervision at the pre-trial
stage, the right to freedom of assembly, effective investigation of alleged
cases of ill-treatment and deprivation of life.
The
actions of the program are consistent with and aim to support the
implementation of action plans arising from the National Strategy for the
Protection of Human Rights in Armenia and some priorities of the strategy of
judicial and legal reforms of the Republic of Armenia for 2022-2026.
