In
the recent days, the Human Rights Defender's office has received complaints and
alarms related to the issues of individual rights protection
Some
of them are below.
On April 17, 2023 the representatives of the
Defender's Office visited the Central Police Station and the Investigation Division
of Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts, based on the received
information, regarding the arrest of film director Arman Yeritsyan and Karen
Hakobyan, and the apparent ill-treatment against them in the Central Police
Station. The problems recorded during the visit and the circumstances presented
by the persons deprived of their liberty were summarized and corresponding
letters were sent to the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Armenia
and the Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
On
April 23, information was published that about 41 people were arrested as a
result of the actions carried out in the "Polygraph" club. According
to the published information, the police officers mistreated the people in the
mentioned club, kept them lying on the ground for a long time, violence was
applied to some people. A reception was organized with some of the people found
in the club on the day of the incident in the Human Rights Defender’s office,
during which written complaints related to the issue were presented to the
Defender.
On
April 25, the Defender's hotline received an alert regarding the alleged
torture of Artak Galstyan, the chairman of the “Public Voice” party. The Defender's
representatives visited the "Nubarashen" Criminal-Executive
Institution (Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia) and later also the
Investigative Department of Yerevan of Investigative Committee of the Republic
of Armenia, in order to get acquainted with the situation. During the interview
A. Galstyan submitted a written complaint to the Ombudsman related to the issue.
Complaints
consideration procedures have been initiated regarding the above-mentioned
cases, necessary measures are being taken within the scope of the Defender's
competences.
