On July 20, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Ms. Kristinne Grigoryan received Ms. Katrin Göring-Eckardt, Vice President of Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Markus Tschan, the Deputy Chief of Mission (First Secretary) of the German Embassy to the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Sonja Schiffers, Director of the Heinrich Böll Stiftung/Foundation Tbilisi Office-South Caucasus and Ms. Evia Hovhannisyan, Armenian Project Coordinator.
Welcoming the guests, Ms. Grigoryan presented the mandate of Institution and main directions of the activities.
During the conversation, Ms. Katrin Göring-Eckardt congratulated Ms. Grigoryan on the occasion of her election as a Human Rights Defender. At the latter’s request, Defender Grigoryan referred to the main challenges in the field of human rights, especially humanitarian issues in the post-war period, including the return of prisoners of war and civilian captives held in Azerbaijan, the provision of social support and psychological assistance to the latter and to the family members of the missing persons, the security of border communities and other issues, as well as issues related to the fight against discrimination and the political and economic empowerment of women.
Ms. Katrin Göring-Eckardt also inquired about the guarantees of independence of the Human Rights Defender, the issues of cooperation of the Defender's Institution with the Government of Armenia and International Organizations, in response to which Defender Grigoryan presented the mechanisms of cooperation with the Government, as well as the main directions of cooperation between the Defender's Office and International Organizations and the jointly implemented projects.
During the meeting, the representatives of the Heinrich Böll Stiftung/Foundation reflected on the projects implemented by the Foundation in the region and in Armenia, the main directions of the activities and the priorities of the Foundation in Armenia.
