On July 13, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Ms. Kristinne Grigoryan received Mr. Ivo Balinov, Regional Director, Asia and Europe "Parliamentary Centre" Canadian Non-Governmental Organization, and Mr. Hovhannes Margaryants, Local Coordinator, Support to the Parliament of Armenia Project.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Ms. Kristinne Grigoryan welcomed Canada's willingness to open an embassy with a resident ambassador in the Republic of Armenia, which will contribute to further deepening of Armenian-Canadian cooperation, including in the field of human rights protection.
During the conversation, Ms. Kristinne Grigoryan presented the mandate of Institution, referred to the activities of the Defender, as well as of the Council on Persons with Disabilities adjunct to the Defender, aimed at ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities, recommendations developed as a result of fact-finding and monitoring visits, as well as partnership with international monitoring bodies.
In her speech, Ms. Grigoryan also presented the main directions of cooperation with the Parliament and emphasized the importance of making joint efforts to implement the recommendations aimed at improving the state of protection of the rights of persons with disabilities enshrined in the annual and ad hoc reports of the Defender submitted to the Parliament.
Mr. Ivo Balinov, Regional Director, Asia and Europe "Parliamentary Centre" Canadian Non-Governmental Organization, presented the activities carried out by the Organization in Armenia aimed at developing the capacities of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and providing technical equipment, including providing available physical conditions for persons with disabilities.
In his speech, Mr. Balinov pointed out the importance of a stable dialogue between the Parliament and the media and presented the details of the activities carried out by the Organization in that direction. The defender presented to the interlocutor the issues raised by the Institution on the mentioned topic.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue the cooperation through the implementation of joint projects in the specified fields.
