On 30 May 2022 the Council of Europe Project “Human Rights and Women in the Armed Forces of Armenia – Phase II” in cooperation with the Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia organized a workshop for media representatives of Armenia on the theme “Media in Security/Defense Sector: What are the limits of media coverage in terms of “responsible journalism”.
The aim of the workshop was to develop the knowledge and skills of journalists and media outlets on the relations between mass media outlets and Defense/security sector, as well as specifics on the media coverage during and after the armed conflicts, taking into consideration new technologies, and the growing importance of online communication platforms.
The Council of Europe international expert Mr. Nikolaus von Twickel was invited as a speaker at the event.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Hrant Jilavyan, Head of the Department General for Protection of Human Rights in the Criminal Justice and Armed Forces of the Office of the Human Rights defender of Armenia, and Ms. Narine Gasparyan, National Programme Manager of the Project of the CoE.
The workshop was attended by the representatives of media of Armenia.
At the conclusion of the workshop, both the representatives of the Office of the Human Rights Defender, and CoE Yerevan Office agreed on the need for continuous development of the skills of journalists in “Media in Security/Defense Sector”, and agreed on the issue of mutual cooperation.
