On May 20, the Human Rights Defender, Ms. Kristinne Grigoryan, received Mr.Vladimir Shkolnikov, Senior Human Rights Adviser of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for South Caucasus and Ms. Denise Sumpf, the Head of the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Armenia.
Mr.Vladimir Shkolnikov congratulated Ms. Grigoryan upon her election as a Human Rights Defender. Taking into consideration the commonalities of the mandates, Mr. Shkolnikov expressed his willingness to support the Human Rights Defender of Armenia within the framework of her activity, further deepen the cooperation, which, inter allia, will be aimed at developing the capacities of the Defender's institution.
Defender Grigoryan presented to Mr. Vladimir Shkolnikov the priorities singled out within the framework of her mandate, as well as she reflected on the issues of families of the Armenian prisoners of war, the civilians kept in Azerbaijan, and missing persons.
Further, the parties discussed the challenges to the protection of human rights in Armenia and in the region, and expressed willingness to join efforts for addressing them.
